An Ideal Man is the sensitive and philosophical portrayal of two young gay teens growing up in a tough homophobic ghetto: East Palo Alto.
Andreas is an illegal Mexican immigrant philosophically contemplating why society condones anti-gay rhetoric and with mute appeal encourages homophobia. Lalo, a blatino, Ebonics-speaking teen, explores his female alter-ego, Miss Lola Divine. Together, and individually, they overcome the peculiar hardships and struggles of their lives, and they overcome with their love.
My name is Adonis Ramirez Parra, and literature is my passion, gay rights my specialty; and by joining the two I am realizing my life’s dream. I am an illegal Mexican immigrant. My citizenship certificate is a fraud because when I was naturalized I realized being gay still barred me from being fully naturalized. I write to give documentation to something that is otherwise prohibited documentation.
My novel is my heart’s obligation to give visibility to what is otherwise refused visibility, by bespeaking the human resilience of our dignity and perseverance to overcome, with love.
